Search Engine Traffic Data for ApartmentRatings.com

I've spent the past year researching apartment review websites like ApartmentRatings.com and the affects it may have on the Student Housing Industry. One topic of interest in particular was search engine traffic. I hope to release a white paper soon but I thought releasing some raw data would be fun in the meantime :) All the data on this page was pulled from Semrush.com. If you have any questions email me.

Enjoy!

Search Engine Traffic: ApartmentRatings.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

Notice the huge spike in traffic around December 2010. Did demand increase that much in one month? Did Google change its algorithm? Hard to account for it.

Search Engine Traffic (Organic): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. ApartmentGuide.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

I found it more curious that ApartmentGuide.com (Primedia) mirrored the spike almost exactly.

Search Engine Traffic (Adwords): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. ApartmentGuide.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

I though maybe they had the similar Adwords campaigns going on at the same time, but it doesn't appear so. While ApartmentGuide.com shows the same spike in traffic for Adwords as it did for organic, ApartmentRatings.com shows zero traffic generated by Adwords.

Search Engine Traffic (Organic): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. Rent.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

I then compared ApartmentRatings.com with Rent.com (Primedia, formally Ebay) and there it was again. Same spike for both sites.

Search Engine Traffic (Adwords): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. Rent.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

And here they are with just adwords traffic...

Search Engine Traffic (Organic): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. Apartments.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

Finally, I compared ApartmentRatings.com to Apartments.com (Classified Ventures) and there doesn't appear to be any mirroring in traffic. In fact, it almost looks like there is a negative correlation between the two.

Search Engine Traffic (Organic): ApartmentRatings.com Vs. Apartments.com | 12/2008 - 9/2012

When drilling down to adword traffic, there does seem to be a small but noticeable spike in traffic for apartments.com.
